Lyon, a city in east central France is the third largest French city. Situated between Paris and Marseille, it is considered as one of the major centre of business in Europe and is well known as the French capital of gastronomy.

Lyon is the second largest metropolitan area in France after Paris, with 1,648,216 inhabitants as calculated in 1999. Lyon is the capital of the Rhone department, and also the capital of the Rhône-Alpes region.
