Hadrian's Wall

Hadrian's Wall is located about 100 miles north of Manchester, and runs across the counties of Cumbria and Northumberland on what was once the England-Scotland border. It's around a 2½ hour drive up the M6 Motorway to Junction 43 (Carlisle) and then due east along the A69 trunk road which follows the Wall along it's entire length to Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The author verifies it to be an easily achievable return day trip from Manchester.

Lyme Park

By Road: Lyme Park lies just off the A6 road between Buxton and Manchester, near the village of Disley. Car park: £3.80 - refunded if you purchase an adult house/gardens ticket.

By Bus: all these buses go past the park entrance: bus 60 from Macclesfield, bus 199 Buxton->Manchester Airport.

By Train: Disley station (on the Buxton-Manchester line), is 0.5 ml from park entrance. On days when the house is open there is a NT courtesy bus.
When is it open?

Lyme Hall is open from 1.00pm and 5.00pm between the end of March and the end of October - closed Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Park is open all year - between 8.00am to 8.30pm in summer and 8.00am to 6.00pm in winter. The Gardens are open 11.00am - 5.00pm in summer (1.00pm - 3.00pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays).
What does it cost?

House & Garden: Adult £6.35, child £3.15, family £13.90. House only: £4.70, child £2.25. Garden only: £3.45, child £2.00. The Cage: £0.90, child free
