Munich is a vast city with a lot to enjoy. The city is a haven for all sorts of culture, with a staggering array of museums, a vibrant arts scene and the infamous revels of Oktoberfest.
The shoulder seasons - April-May, September-October - are great times to visit, with fewer visitors (with the glaring exception of the Oktoberfest crowd) and plenty of sunshine, although visiting between November and March will pretty much give you the place to yourself, along with the below-freezing temperatures and sunless skies.

One of the most famous annual festivals in Munich is the Oktoberfest, a celebration of beer and music that attracts visitors from all around the world.

City Centre(Marienplatz/Karlsplatz)

The city center is made up largely of the Karlsplatz and the pedestrian shopping zone that leads down to Marienplatz square, which are the main tourist hang outs. These areas offer a lot for visitors. The area within the old walled city is mostly reffered to as City Center. Most notable are the gates at Stachus, Isartor and Sendlingertor

Schwabing (University Area)

Schwabing is the upscale academic district - a trendy but charming neighborhood immediately beyond the Ludwig-Maximilian Universität. It has many small coffee houses along with expensive yet impressive shoe stores, bookstores and speciality restaurants from around the world. The Leopoldstraße also offers coffeeshops such as Starbucks or the San Francisco Coffee Company.

Neuhausen & Nymphenburg

It is one of the most relaxing districts, where the atmosphere causes visitors alike to forget they are in a city of over a million. Neuhausen is home to a popular night club and the world's largest beer garden, and yet virtually undiscovered by tourists.
